NEXT WOOL SALE. GOOD QUALITY OF CLIPS. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 9. It is announced by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association that wool has already been received into store for the second sale of the season, exceeding the quota of 25,000 bales fixed by the New Zealand Wool Committee. This will necessitate the holding over of several thonsands of bales from the sale on January 25 until* the third sale on February 25. This surplus is attributed partly to the fact that a considerable quantity has been held over by growers from the last sale, and partly to the extremely dry season, and the correspondingly early shearing. The long stretch of fine weather throughout the spring and early summer has permitted the uninterrupted progress of shearing operations in Conterbury, and this important work is probably three weeks in advance of last year. Thus the wool has beep rushed to the stores unusually early, and the quantities held there are considerably in excess of the qdota for the second sale. This will no doubt be a disappointment to many growers, as there is a general tendency at present to meet the market. Th<e wool this year is much better and brighter than last year, and the fleeces are well grown and strong. On '.he whole, also sheep are shearing more wool per head, and it is estima ted by one broker that there is an average increase of half a. pound per fleece. It must be remembered, however, that last season’s clip was a comparatively light one. The wool ■ offering at the coming sale will be well above the average in quality. At the first sale the wool came mostly from the farms and front stations, and although there was a big representation of halfbred and Corriedale classes, these finer wools will naturally be better represented at the later sales. There will be a good catalogue of halfbred and Cirriedale clips at the sale, on January 25, and theie should also be a bigger showing of merino.
For the.second sale last year, on January 26, there were 29,000 bales offered for disposal.
