COUNTERFEIT NOTES
CIRCULATOR CAUGHT. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association ) AUCKLAND, January 9. A man entered a shop in Karangaliape Road this (morning and fo'r a purchase tendered a hank ol New South Wales £1 note. A girl attendant recognised the note as a counterfeit. The mail fled, and the girl immediately informed a constable on his heat. He and other constables searched for the man. They: found him thirty minutes later, and’ took him to his lodgings, where it is understood, they discovered five hundred counterfeit £1 notes, similar to tliose which were circulated in Auckland last year.
MAN CHARGED IN COURT
AUCKLAND, January 11
As a sequel ■ to the discovery by the police on Saturday, of 500 corn «• rteit i3l notes, a man named Harry Dawson, aged 48 years, a hatter, was charged in the police court with uttering a forged note', 5 and being in unlawful possession of one. He was remanded for a week, the police saying that a lot of inquiries were being made.
