AT BRUCE BAY

OPENING OF NEW CHURCH. (From a Correspondent). There was a very large gathering at Bruce Bay on Sunday the 13th. of December, to attend the opening of the English Church quite recently built there. The Rev. A. K. ,W<i£ren preached the opening service, at"tiuee o’clock in the afternoon, and 62 persons, young and old gathered together in the new Church. Special praise due io Jhe Rev. Warren for the good work he has done for the short time lio has been in the district. It is just about eighteen months ago, .that Air Warren pieac/ied his first sermon in the Bruce Bay school house, and after tlie service he discussed with the people the possibility of bidding a church, and on the above date ne preadied the opening service in the new church, and it is very pleasing t 0 he able to state, that the building, which is quite, a nice one, is absolute! v free- of debt. Here again Mr Warren shines out in as much, that he was instrumental in getting a very substantial grant from a fund called the Henry William and William Williams Memorial trust, that together, with a good lot of assistance in the district both in money find labour, the work hits been carried out very creditably, and ih a short space of time. Before the opening, service was taken, Mr Warren was i the recipient of a small present from r a number of his congregation as « 1 mark of esteem in which he is held in the district. Mr Warren, on receiving the gift spoke quite feelingly jof the unexpected honour that had ; been bestowed on him and said he would always retain a warm coiner fn J his heart for Bruce Bay and the people living there. It is with regret that I have to state that it is probably Air Warren’s last visit to the far south, as lie is leaving the parish early .in the New Year, to* take up> his duties in Waimate.
