OFFENCE AT AUCKLAND
A VISITOR SENTENCED
AUCKLAND, December 16,
; A recent arrival from Christchurch, Malcolm Charles M’Donald, aged thirty-seven years,. a labourer, pleaded guilty this morning to a charge deeming , )iim t 0... be an idle and disorderly person-, with insufficient means of support. Accused mot a . deaf and dumb man in the city last Sunday. The deaf and, dumb man paid for meals for himself and accused, and later went to an hotel, where he paid for two beds. When the two were walking up Durham : Street on Sunday , night, M’Donald knocked the deaf and dumb man down and stole a watch and chain and £2 from his pockets. The same night he was arresited,. the worse for liquor, evidently -bought with the money •he took from the man. 'M’Donald was not charged with assault and robbery because there was no, one to Corroborate complainant’s story ; and to make it more difficult complainant •was deaf and . dumb. M Donald was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment', the Magistrate remarking that he was the sort of man the city could .wel'l do without an- the hodday season.
