DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK

STRICT PRECAUTIONS TAKEN. ASHBURTON, December 9. By Exercising strict precautions the outbreak of diphtheria which occurred in Ashburton at the end of last week has been kept in check. A total of twelve cases was notified, hut none have been received by the health authorities during the past two or three days. Of those reported ten were in the country and two in the borough. Both the Winchester and Springston Schools, which h«d intended to hold picnics in the Domain to-morrow, cancelled their arrangements. One case jpf typhoid at Methven and one of scarlet fever at Allenton were reported to the health inspector to-day.
