URGE TO PARENTS

TO KEEP (IHIUDREN AT SGHOOUI IF NO EMPLOYMENT OFFERING, An urge for parents % keep their children at school if there is no employment offering wn s the principle * feature of the Rector’s report to the Hokitika District School Committee at its meeting last evening. The Rector, Mr Menzies, therein stated:— “In view of the present difficulty of finding employment for‘young, boys and girls, I should like to urge upon parents the desirability of keeping their child'-en at school next year. Even though they may have reaohed the age of 14 years, or have spent two or three years at the High School. “My reason for so doing lies, iu the fact that,’ until employment offers, these young people will quickly. deteriorate if merely idling from day to day with no fixed purpose, possibly spoiling their chances of being accepted later / on, whereas if they remain at school, they will be under direct supervision, and "’hi he receiving definite benefits from an extended school course—benefits that may possibly enhance their chances of employment when times improve. This is a matter that, vitually concerns the future welfare of the children.

The report was adopted with approval on the part of several of the members.
