GOLD PROSPECTING
THE HOKITIKA ASSOCIATION. SUBSIDY TO BE ASKED FOR. The Hokitika District Prospecting Association met last evening when there were present: Messrs A. H. Lawn (chairman), E. W. Heenan, (J. Sutherland, S. Hyndman, N. Warren, S. Honey, W. Boyd, T. R. Chesterman and the Secretary (Mr J. Peake). The Rirnu Gold Dredging Coy., and Knnieri Electric Ltd. wrote enclosing donations towards the funds. Mr D. Feeney wrote asking the Association’s assistance in driving a prospecting tunnel in the Ho Ho creek.
On the motion of Mr Warren it was decided to apply to the Mines Department asking for a subsidy of £2 for £1 on money raised. The application was referred to the Hokitika Unemployment Committee with a favourable recommendation.
Three members, were appointed to report on all applications which came-be-fore the Association. .1.
Mr W. Reid, of Donegall Creek, Hillman’s, also >wrote asking for assistance. The letter, was received and the Committee decided to inquire into the matter. v ' v '
Mr J. J. Mclntosh was appointed to the Committee in place. of Mr Moore, resigned. »' 1 • • • , Mr Mclntosh" was instructed to-'ap-proach Mr A. Appleton asking for terms for the use of a hand-boring machine. :
