REDUCTION IN STAKES,

WELLINGTON, December 7

A reduction of approximately fifty per cent, has been made in the stakes for Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting, the total being £6,285, against £1.1,500 Tast year. The principal handicap, the Wellington Cup, has been reduced from 1500 sovs. (950 sovs. and gold cup to winner) to 750 sovs. (600 sovs. to winner). The Telegraph Handicap is 350 sovs., as against 750 sovs. ; and the Wellington Stakes 750 sovs., compared with 1000 sovs. Other events on the day are in proportion, the hack races being reduced from 260 sovs., to 160 sovs.

On the second day the Racing Club Handicap is 500 sovs. (350 sovs. to the winner) ; the Douro Cup 300 sovs. '(winner 210 sovs.) ; the Metropolitan •Handicap 300 sovs. ; the January 'Hahdicap 200 sovs.

On the third day the principal handicap changes are : —Consolation, Handicap, which has been altered, to the tSumnrer Handicap and the stage reduced from 500 sovs. to 350 sovs. ; the .Summer Handicap has been eliminated; and a Welter put in its place. The City Handicap of 500 sovs,, has been reduced' to 250 sovs., and, as on the first day, all the minor races and the two-year-old events share in the reduction.
