A FEDERAL ELECTION

POSSIBLE ON DECEMBER 19th. VIEWS OF PARTIES. ( iustralian Press Association) (Received this day at 9.25 a.m) CANBERRA, November 26. The Federal election will probably be held on the 19th. December. Mr Scullin waits on the GovernorGeneral this morning and will ask for a dissolution of Parliament. It is expected his Excellency will grant the request. An election to fill the places of those Senators due to retire at the end of June will be held simultaneously. Interviewed after a- Cabinet meeting last night, Mr Scullin indicated that lie would make no request that Sir Isaac Isaacs would send for Mr Lyons in an effort to have another Government formed. The Chief Electoral Officer (S. Irwin) interviewed the Attorney General and other Ministers and there is not expected that any difficulty will be found in holding the election on 19th. December. It will be the most hurried campaign in Commonwealth history. If, however, the electoral arrangements cannot be completed by that time alternative dates likely for the election ate 9th. ,Tan. of 16tli, Jan. Mr Lang has decided to offer no comments on the position. Mr Lyons said from every point of view an election was desirable. The people will now have an opportunity of choosing between dangerous, unsound financial theories which the Federal Labour Party was putting into operation and the sound progressive policy of the opposition, which alone can bring about- any permanent alleviation of the present- hardships of the people. > Mr Latham stated the appeal to the people was long overdue. _ Government had attempted to introduce legislation for political control of banking currency which was never mentioned during the election, at which it was returned to power. The Opposition believes this policy, if carried into effect, will delay indefinite’y and disastrously, Australia’s return to prosperity.
