FAR EASTERN CRISIS'. In the present crisis Japan not unnaturally insists that her treaty rights, which, give warrant for her presence in Manchuria, must be 'preserved. Extreme Nationalist opinion in China declares that these treaties should at least be revised. Further to inflame Chinese Nationalist sentiment, Japan declares that she will not leave Manchuria until she is driven out. It is a challenge difficult in the present temper of Chinese feeling to resist. The problem, now before the League is not how to prevent war, and how to prevent the war which has already begun from assuming proportions in which foreign interests will he seriously and embarrassingly involved. —The Dominion.
