BRUTAL ASSAULT
WOMAN THROTTLED AND ROUND
JEWE LLERY AN D CASH STOLEN

A.b’r.Uta,l assault occurred at Leithfield Elizabeth Evans, an elderly woman, living alone in a shop and dwelling, was attacked.
-She was throttled, and bound by two men who stoie jewellery valued at' £IOO and £5 cash. Her condition is serious.
The assault, occurred between 2 and 3 a.m., , when Mrs Evans was in bed. , > The locality is almost deserted during the mid-week and no one else saw the men. After hitting the woman on the head they partly throttled her and threw ammonia in her eyes, a,nd then tied-.her down on the bed, both arms and legs. This morning Mrs Evans was still blind from the effects of the ammonia and was suffering. greatly from shock. Her condition is serious, but she was able to furnish a description to the police.
