RAILWAY BUILDING
A STRANGE STATEMENT. ELTHAM, November 14. His firm belief that no decision to build the South Island main trunk railway had ever been made by the United Cabinet was expressed by Mr C. A. Wilkinson at a meeting in Cardiff last evening, when he opened his campaign for the Egniont seat. , ; “Let them deny if they' can,” said the candidate. “The Chief Engineer, Mr Furkett, in reply to niy questions, while I was on the Economic C6mmittee, said that he had supplied no estimate or information to the • Governmen concerning the cost of the line. He had just been told to ‘build the line,’ and had gone on with it.”
