CANDIDATE FOR MATAURA. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) GORE, November 17. Thomas Golden, of Fortrose, is announced as the unofficial Reform 'Coalition candidate for the Mataura seat. HON. RANSOM MAY BE UNOPPOSED. DANNEVIRKE, November 17. Dannevirke electors have decided to remain loyal to the Coalition candidate, Hon. E. A. Ransom. A meeting to consider the advisabil ity of the nomination of an Independent Candidate to contest the Paliiatua wais sparsely attended. Two speeches were made, by the convenor and a member, of the audience, but no motion was proposed, and the meetdispersed without expressing any opinion.

There is every possibility now, of Mr Ransom being unopposed.

A COMMUNIST CANDIDATE

CHRISTCHURCH, November. 17

'Mr G. McGifford, aged 23, has been announced as the Communist candidate for Christchurch South. The Communist Party also expects to nominate candidates for Lyttelton and Avon.

MR LEE MARTIN'S CAMPAIGN

HAMILTON, November 17

Mr W. Lee Martin (Labour, Raglan), addressed the eleotors at PukemTro last night. He .-declared himself in favour of further assistance to primary producers, and the encouragement of secondary industries. He favoured an internal loan of £10,000,000, providing permament productive works for the unemployed. He advocated a roading policy for the baekblocks, but opposed further borrowing from overseas, reduction in wages, and curtailment of primary educational provisions. Votes of thanks and confidence were passed.

INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE RETIRES.

DUNEDIN, November 17

Mr C. M. Moss, Independent candidate for Dunedin North, has announced has retirement in order that a clean cut issue between Coalition and Labour may not be obscured.
