A O'GLAND. Nov. 6. The Coalition arrangement is scarcely effective in Auckland province, jt affecting only a few electorates. A number of Independents have entered the lists, an action no doubt encourthe failure of the two antiLabour Parties to reach an agreement in a great majority of electorates The Coalition ngrement was designed to limit the fight in the average electorate to two candidates, Labour and anti-Labour. Actually the result has been to increase the number of candidates. The United Party had proposed to give Reform a clear field in Manukau, if the United Party is allowed a similar run in Auckland West, hut the nonoaranee of Tilth pendent Reform candidate, in Roskill (Mr W . T. HoldswortlU and Eden (R. Glover Clark) appears >o have barred the way to settlement on those lines, even if the possibility had previously existed.

At last evening’s meeting of the Grey Main School Committee Mr F. J. Tempero of St. Albans School, Christchurch, was appointed to the rp'-ib'Mi of assistant manter at the School on the recommendation of the Canterbury Education Board. Mr J. Hof all, of Gentle Annie, Punalsviikai, had the‘ misfortune to have his house totally destroyed by fire at 8.20 on Thursday evening. Mr Hollah had ‘ left the home to collect some papers from a nearby camp, and on returning half nn hour later, was amazed to see his home in flames.
