HEAVY HAILSTORM
IN HEART OF CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Ter Tress A ssaciotion J CHRISTCHURCH, October 21. Unusually heavy hailstones, some as much as half an inch in diameter, fell in the city this afternoon, during a sharp, hut short, hailstorm, The track of the storm was narrow', and sharply defined, and most of the heavy hail was confined to the city area, where the hail made a roaring din on tne roof® of the buildings, and whitened the streets during the quarter of an hour of its intensity. The damage done was negligible, and. was confined to flowering trees and shrubs and garden plant®. The fruit growing areas and market gardens which are in the outer suburbs escaped the storm completely, or almost completely.
