The first named was put through all stages and parsed without amendment. The second reading of Auckland Harbour Bridge Empowering Bill was carried on the voices. The Council adjourned at 4.35 p.m. THE HOUSE. In fi ie House of Representatives the Chattels Transfer Amendment Bill wag; received from the Council and read a first time. . Hawkes Bay Earthquake Relief Bill was introduced by Governor-Generals message and read a first time. My Forbes said the Bill gave the Central Earthquake Committee statutory authority to control the funds. The Committee would remain a® at present constituted. NO CONFIDENCE MOTIONS DEFEATED. Urgency Was accorded the debate '*«*■ the no-coftfidence motion. A division on Mr Wilkinson’s amendment telegraphed on Fiiday was taken! at 11.15 p.m. The amendment was defeated by 46 to 25, those voting for it being Labour members and Wilkin- . son, Fletcher, Rushworth, Black and Hogan, while Poison voted against it. The Leader of the Opposition replying on the main motion, denied the Prime Minister’s allegation that Roberts, Secretary of the Alliance of Labour’attended the Labour Party caucusHe invited the Prime Minister to set up a tribunal to investigate the position aad if it was proved that lie (Mr Holland) were wrong, he would immediately go out of public life, while if it were proved Mr Forbes was wrong, i the Prime Minister must agree to face the electors at once. The no-confidence, motion was defeated by 46 to 23. Messrs Fletcher and Rushworth did not vote on this occasion, otherwise the division list was identical with that for Mr Wilkinson’® amendment. The House rose at midnight.
