TWO LIVES LOST

STRATFORD, October 2

Two fives were lost in a motor car which capsized over a bank at i’ohokura, on the line of the Stratford main trunk railway List night. The car was driven by A. V. Helmsley, a carpenter of the Public Works Department at Tangarakau, who had with him his mother, Beatrice Anne Helmsley, aged 48, and his son Victor Keith Helmsley aged 4.

The car fell into two ieet of water and the son was pinned underneath and killed instantly.

The mother was extricated with difficulty, and died on the way to Stratford hospital.

The party left Tangarakau yesterday to visit Helrnslev’s wife in the hospital in 'Stratford, and the tragedy occurred on the return journey.
