The “Daily Herald’’ Lobbyist thus interprets the position.—“ Ihe moment Mr Lloyd George was unable to defend himself, his trusted lieutenants sold the free trade pass.” The Lobbyist adds that in consequence of the wholesale desertion of a majority of the party, Mr Llovd George will not take an active part in the election, but will he content with a lettei to constitutents dissociating himself from the (National Government.

The Sun-Herald political correspondent savs:—The decision of the Liberal Cabinet members to remain in the Government is the turning point of the election manoeuvres. The newspaper adds that there is now to be an election at the earliest possible date, and the National Government, led by Mr MacDonald, will comprise all the Conservatives and the majority of Liberals against the Labour Party.
