MINING
REVIVAL OF GOLD INDUSTRY. Ilpn. Mark Fagan speaking in the Legislative Council last week gave a most interesting and instructive addfbss on the above subject. He specially stressed the following: I thinK it is indisputable that, sine© we shall be. unable to borrow externally for the next few years, the country must stand on , its own legs, and - live on its owp income, To do that it will be be necessary to develop our remaining natural recources, and I think goldmining would respond to a greater extent than any other industry. Our salvation, on more than one occasion in the past, has been gold-production, and 1 am confident that, given the fight, encouragement, the proper lead, and the adoption of sensible methods, this industry Will again help us to soIVe our present economic troubles. Np' industry has done more to develop thill country and bring it to its present status than has gold-mining.
