The Department, of Agriculture in its report indicates that < the recent wool consumption of the United States has increased remarkably. The consumption of combings and clothing wool in July was thfe greatest for any month, since May,' 1922. The high'rate was maintained through August and [for the first seven m'dhths of 1931 the consumption was twenty per cent. - above the previous similar period, -The :; wool consumed has been Jairgely of do- ■ mestic production, due to its low prices and to there being small imports. LONDON, September 25.
At the wool sales 10,161 ‘ hales were offered, including '.,-3168 bales from New Zealand. About 4780 bales were sold. There, was a strong market and an active home and continental demand.
Compared with the July series, scoured Merjnos were unchanged, greasy Merinos and fine crossbreds were from par to five per cent, up, medium and coarse crossbreds were .unchanged, slips (fine), were five to ten per cent, up and lower grades five per cent, up. , j ;
