THE RUAPEHU
A LONG CAREER ENDED. LONDON, August 13. The Ruapehu was handed over a few days ago to Italian shipbreakers at Falmouth, having concluded a long career. The “Belfast News-Letter” remarks : Built at; Dumbarton; thirty <years. ago the Ruapehu belonged to what ha s become known as the “Sunshine Butter Fleet,” being one of the first ships to firing butter to England under the control of the - New Zealand Produce Board. During her lifetime the vessel carried well over a million boxes of New Zealand butter, and over half a milion crates of New Zealand cheese. She discharged her last cargo in London at the end of April. The Ruapehu had the distinction of forming part of the first' convoy carrying New Zealand troops to Egypt durthe Great War.
