PROBE SENSATIONS

NEW YORK CORRUPTION. NEW YORK, September 4. The seething underworld circles and powerful political groups are being rocked by the charges being investigated by the Seabury inquiry in two police departments. Tt is alleged that Police-Capatin MeClinchy, of Brooklyn, was transferred from his po-t to “the sicks” five days after he had spurned a 30.000 dollar (£6000) bribe from Tammany politicians and a notorious gangster to permit breweries and racketeers to flourish unmolested in his precinct. After his transfer Charles Enlratta, henchman of “Legs” Diamond, was killed in his former district by a gunman in the beer feud. The present investigation is likely for the first time to reveal publicly the alliance between Tammany politicians and the racketeers.
