SHIPS IN COLLISION
SIERRA AND HAURAKI. AUCKLAND, September 5. A mishap occurred as the Matson Line steamer Sierra was leaving Auckland for -Sydney last evening. « The vessel was about to back out from Prince's Wharf and an order was given for the engines to go astern. For some reason, however, they were put ahead instead, with the result that the vessel’s stem collided with the Union Company’s motor ship, Hanraki, moored at the same wharf. The impact dented a plate in the stem of the Hauraki, which sailed for Wellington later in the evening.
