ARBITRATION COURT
APPEAL FROM CUT.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association)
WELLINGTON, September 4
The Arbitration Court is to-day engaged in bearing an application, by the Electrical Workers Unions for exclusion from the Court’s genera* order of a ten per cent. cut. Twelve grounds are advanced, some of which bis Honour has already stated are not special reasons, but common to many trades. It was urged when the appeal ol Wellington linesmen was under discussion, that the large amount of profit made by the City Council, £50,000, did not warrant a cut in mens wages in this department.
Mr Mountgoy, opposing the application said electrical workers were not the only class experiencing a. difficulty in meeting their obligations in regard to rationing. He said it was considered only fair that work should be spread over as many workers as pcs sible. In regard to the City Council profits, lie said the taking of a single revenue branch of the corporation could not be considered alone, because in addition to revenue bearing departments the Council had many not producing any revenue. The Court reserved its decision.
