COUNCIL MEETING. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd. The Council of the above Society sat at 7.40 p.m. Pres, nt : Messrs J. J. Mclntosh (Vice-President). J. King, Gafrnet Perry, !R. Paterson, A. C. Armstrong, H. Wells, W. Braddon, A. N. Baker, and D. J. Evans. The minutes' ol the, previous meeting wert confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved. IN WAR D 'CORE ESPOXDEXCE. From Department of Internal Affairs, notifying amended conditions for th purpose of purchasing ammunition foi the destruction of deer.—-Received. From same supplying list of persons to whom licenses were issued for the purchase of opossum -skins.—Received. From same with respect to the con , trol of 1 Canadian Geese.—Received. From -Acclimatisation Societies notifying despatch of ova.—Received. From G. VY. Buchanan, Kelso, asking particulars of deer stalking siasou.—Re ceived and information supplied.
GENERAL. 'Accounts to the amount of £3O 10s Id ■were passed for payment, ’ The Secretary reported in regard to matters enquired into when in Wellington in July. Received with tHanks. It. was decided to communicate with All Hodgkinson relative to further deer culling the Haast region. Mr Armstrong, Chairman of the Hatchery Committee reported there were 982,000 ova In the Hatchery at present, comprising 150,000 brown trout ova from Christchurch of poor quality; 194,000 from Otago ; 288,000 from Southland, and 350.000 rainbow ova from’Rotorua The quinnat ova of 215,000 had been hatched and distributed so that the ova so far handled was 1,197,000, which in volved a very ' busy season. The Caretaker had a busy time, and some temporary assistance was granted over the rush season. J-lalf a million fry would he sent to Greymouth, and the ad vanesupplies W'ere now going forward. A gift of 50,000 ova from Southland had been offered and w r as accepted wth thanks. The report was received as very satisfactory. It was resolved to send a letter of thanks to Air H. Johnston acknowledgin'' his ready services 'in connection with the help given 'in handling the ova. It was stated the fishing season would open in a month’s time '(October Ist) and the prospects for the season wenpromising. The meeting concluded at 8.10 p.m. with a vote of thanks to the 'Chair. -
