A YOUTHFUL BURGLAR

LONG SERIES OF THEFTS. (By Telegraph—Per press Association) GISBORNE, August 28. A remarkable story of the Lone-hand-ed activities of a youthful burglar and car thief wcas related at the Police Court this morning, when Christopher Nevin, 17, appeared on eleven charges of breakening entering and thert, three charges of theft, ami eight charges of conversion of cats and motor cycles. The offences extdnded over six months and culminated in the arrest of accused on August 16.

The police investigations leading to the discovery-.that the stolen articles valued approximately at £3OO were hidden in accused’s bedroom, while articles of jewellery had been thrown into a creek from which they were rest n pa m '#k*v a w •vr'o covered.

In one instance the accused entered a house while the occupants were at home and removed the electric light bulbs 'from the rooms he was ransacking in case he was disturbed. He climbed on the balcony of the Presbyterian Manse whilst the minister was at church and stole a quantity of jewellery and money.

The burglary charges were reduced to common theft to enable the accused to be dealt with by the Magistrate

Niven pleaded guilty to all charges and was ordered to be detained at Borstal for a period not exceeding three years.

Prisoner stated in a confession that he had applied the stolen money to correspondence courses and /the pur chase of a set of teeth.
