(Received this day at 1.5 p.m.) RUGBY, August 27
The last important Ministerial post in the new National, Government has been filled by the appointment of the Marquess of Crewe to the War Office, where he replaces Tom Shaw. . He will not occupy a seat in the Cabinet. It is understood that Sir E'. Grey, owing to poor health declined a seat in the Government but expressed hearty approval of its formation and purpose.
Mr MacDonald left London for Lossiemouth to-night and will return in time to preside at the next meeting of Cabinet on Monday when it is expected that reports will be placed before it from the sub-Committees appointed at the first meeting. Apart from the legislation required for dealing with the financial emergency, the Government will only proceed with measures of a proved noncoijtraversial kind, among which may be ranked London Passenger Transport Bill. It is considered improbable any other Bills introduced by the late Government and still before Parliament, will be proceeded with by the National Government.
Sir Samuel Hoare on his appointment as Secretary for India issued a message of goodwill to India, in which be asks spiritual goodwill and cooperation at the forthcoming Indian Round Table Conference..
