WORKING FLOODING.
(By Telegraph—Per Frees Association)
WHANGAREI, August 27
In pursuance of a declaration that all the plant would be removed unless the men resumed immediately, Wilson’s (N.Z.) Portland Cement Company has removed the last pump from its mine at Hikuraugi, and the engine lias stopped working for the first time in many years.
A conference i s being held at Auckland this afternoon between the miners’ representatives and the company directors. In the meantime the workings are flooding very rapidly. Even if a settlement of the dispute is 'reached at once, the dewatering of the m ne and the replacing of the gear will prove costly operations, and much delay will be inevitable before the extraction of coal can recommence.
