SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association) THE CHATEAU, August 26. The first events of the Ruapehu Skiing Club’s annual winter sports tournament were held at Tongariro National Park to-day. There were excellent snow conditions for the Langlauf racing. It was a fine day with a light westerly breeze. There were 250 spectators. Results:— Men’s Langlauf (ax cross country) race, about 7 miles distance for Ruapehu Ski Club members.—Rod Syme (Hawera) Ist ; R. C\. Muris (Welling, ton) 2nd; R. Allen (New Plymouth) 3rd. Won by 25 yards. There were ten starters.
The N.Z. Amateur Langlauf Championship Race (open) was' run over a ' similar course and resulted :—Rod Syme (Ruapehu Ski Club) Ist; R. C. Murie (Ruapehu Ski Club) 2nd ; Ribby Allen (Ruapehu Ski Club) 3n’d. Won by five seconds.
The Ladies’ Langlauf or cross country race (open) about two miles, drew 10 competitors, an’d resulted;— M. Knight 'Ruapehu Ski Club) Ist; L. D. Livegrove (Ruapehu Ski Club) 2nd; 11. McPherson (Tararua Tramping Club) 3rd, Won by four seconds, and third competitor one second later. Syme gained the title til N.Z. Am«t a tour Langlauf champion. The position of the Ruapehu Ski Club championship after to-day’s event was; Syme 4 points, Murie 2 points, Allan 1 point. Further results on Thursday and Friday will decide both the N.Z. Championship and the club championship.
