MAN UNDER BED
AGED WOMAN’S FRIGHT. AUCKLAND, August 25. An aged woman livipg alone in Kara lea Street, Newton, Mrs L. Reynolds, was struck in the,, face4ate yesterday afternoon, by a Maori, who had hidden tuidgr. a bgd, The assailant escaped and so far has. not been ami,sled. No money was stolen. , | | Yesterday afternoon, Mrs Reynolds a frail, little woman of 78 years, went to the Post Office, and drew her pension. About 4.30 she was escorted home hv a policeman, who helped her to arrange the pension papers. After this, he left the house. It is thought that while the constable was in the house, the Maori was hiding under the bed. When Mrs Reynolds went into the bedroom, she noticed the feet of the Maori sticking ou,t from under the bed.. She screamed. The Maori crawled from under, and in an excited effort. .to escape, hit Mrs Reynolds in the face as lie rushed past. Food taken from the .kitchen, was found. later under the bed.
