COUNCIL’S DIRTY ROOM. ' AUCKLAND, August 26. “I scrubbed the floor of .the Council Chambers,” declared,, the Town Clerk of Northcote, ,-(H. W. Wilson), when a discussion arose about the cleanliness of the room. “It is part of my duties and 1 have done it tor the past eight years.’;,, Mr T. Joll, in raising the question of renovations to th© Council Chambers said the state of the room was disgraceful, ‘ and lie doubted if such a filthy condition existed in any other borough.

The Mayor (Mr R. Martin): You should have been to Taka-puna, some time ago. Mr A. W. Christmas: You are the only Town Clerk /who ever, scrubbed floors.

The borough overseer was instructed to make- arrangements for the floor to he scrubbed regularly.
