WORKMAN’S FALL

OVER 220 FEET CLIFF. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) WHAKATANE, August 4. A 'fatal accident occurred at Galatea road construction works yesterday when a workman, L. Techaarn, married, about 26 years of age, 'fell from the top of a cliff to the roadway 220 feet below. ’The men were working with lifelines and deceased desired to lengthen the line and climbed up the rope. On reaching the top lie tripped and fell, his body landing on the roadway alongside his mate, with whom he was working a few minutes previously.

Deceased wsa transferred recently 'from the Railwav works at Gisborne.

An inquest was opened last night and adjourned sine die.
