WATERSIDERS PROTEST
AT ARBITRATION COURT RULING (Bp Pres* A ssofiiation) AUCKLAND. August 4. In consequence of the Arbitration Court ruling out three of the four grounds on which watersiders unions of Auckland and province applied for exemption from the ten per cent, cut, the hearing of the case ended abruptly this morning after two hours, whereas it had been expected to last two days. The Court ruled that three of the Unions’s grounds were grounds ior use when applying for an ordinary award. <> J. Roberts (Secretary of New Zealand Watersiders Union). protested strongly asserting the Court had not kept its promise made at the hearing in Wellington, of application for a general order. “The Court now placed me in the position that 1 must appeal to Calsar, and Calsar means the men themselves. Our award is nearly run out. My own hope is that we will not have to trouble the Court- for another award.
The employers are rushing in get another agreement. We are rushing with them. If there' is any difficulty you gentlemen on both sides will have to take the responsibility.” He said he would consult his men throughout New Zealand and then tell the court at Wellington sitting whether or not he would withdraw the whole ca se. Judge Fraser said tin* Court must administer the law as it found it. He regretted if there had Been a»v m:snnderstanding. He did riot think Mr Huberts had been harshly treated.
