OBITUARY
FREDERICK MACKENZIE
LONDON, August 1
The death has occurred at Zeist of Mr Frederick A. Mackenzie, the wellknown war correspondent, known as “the man with a year to live.” He had been under treatment for three months by Dr Bendien, whose alleged cancer cure is at present under invest.gation. When- Mr Mackenzie knew that his lease of life was shortening, he reviewed his career and expressed his feelings regarding the future. He received many letters of sympathy. Two months ago lie published a biography of Lord Beaverbrook.
Born in Canada in 1869, Mr Mackenzie saw his first days of journalism in the Dominion. He soon went to England, where he was taken on the s'att of the “Daily Mail" and represented that paper in the concluding stages o! the South African war. He covered all the wars that occurred, inclining the Russo-Japanese war, until 1910. when he was appointed editor ot "ihe Times Weekly Edition/’ a position he occupied miFil 'the outbreak of war in 1914. Afterwards he spent live years in Russia. He has published a number of books dealing with his experiences, and with crime. He is the author of a biography of King George V.
