O. Barber (an Englishman) and A. Walter (an Esthonian) arrived at Plymouth in a 28 foot yacht, after what is claimed as a record trans-Atlantic passage of twenty-nine days from Newport, Rhode Island. During the trip the pair lashed themselves to the mast to prevent huge seas washing them overboard. They were without a chronometer and saw no sign of life for a week. A 14 feet shark followed them for days, six inches from the gunwale.
