While the King's yacht, Britannia was proceeding to the opening of the races at Cowes Regatta, the yacht heeled over and a wave washed overboaid the second mate. Ernest Friend. The Killer was deeply moved at the tragaly and took an active part in the rescue work hut there was a heavy se;i running and Friend though a strong swimmer, was unable to keep afloat. The Britannia searched the spot for - half an hour without result. Meanwhile there was tremendous excitement among the spectators ashore and the yachts at Cowes. A rumour that the King had met with a mishap was soon dispelled. The King returned to reassure the Queen.
