FIRE AT KIHIKIHI
large, building destroyed. TE AWAMUTU, July 28, About 4,30 this afternoon smoke was noticed coming from the eaves of a large wooden store at Kihikihi, which, proved that fire was well establisnect above the eeiling. ; '/.lp the absence of Water or equipment, it was impossible to cheek the flames which levelled the building in half an hour. The building was very old, but had been modernised a few years ago by tlie owner, Mr V. Fitzpatrick. The general store was conducted by Mr W. Marshall. Practically nothing was salvaged -from the rapidly spreading fire. The stock was insured for £I2OO in the South. British and Queensland Offices. The building was insured in the State Office, but the amount- is not ascertainable. For. innately there was no wind, or the Town Hall adjoining could not have escaped;.
