DEATH OF MOTOR CYCLIST
MORE ENQUIRIES TO BE MADE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) TE AWAMUTU, July 28. An inquest on Edward James Park, who was killed yesterday, was opened before the Coroner, Mr G. W. Empson, this lhorning and continued all day. Evidence revealed that deceased was returning to ‘Waihou from Mangapeelii on a motor-cycle, when the accident happened at a bend in the roadi three miles north of Te Awamutu. John Albert Sauderson and John J. Masterton, who were walking to Auckland and witnessed the collision, both averred that the truck was travelling at an unreasonably high speed, a;nd| at the impact the cyclist was catapulted back 20 feet. It was stated that the wheel-marks showed that the truck’s brakes were applied 40 feet before the impact, and that tlie crushed cycle was dragged several feet before the truck stopped. On the application of the police the inquest was adjourned to enable further 'inquiries to he made.
