NEW CRICKET FAN.
DRYING SODDEN PITCHES. LONDON, July 20. The up-to-date cricket fan is not the human variety, but a. mechanical, eLc-tyically-driven machine, which a man pushes on-wheels. It generates a hurricane which dries a wet pitch and reduces cricket delays. Mr F. Cotterel. clerk of works at Lord's cricket ground, originated the idea, which will.pay foritself with, the extra gate'tnofiay it brings-: in. A wooden model preceded the present metal contrivance, which consists of a propel-ler-like fan, that sucks air into a t’pering funnel and blows out a .terrific blast. Tt dries lf> gallons of water from the pitch in half an hour. The test was successful and indicates that the machine is also applicable to tennis courts. ,
