. Although he strongly condemns smoking to excess, Dr Alexander, 'Medical Officer of Poplar (London), admits that smoking has its virtues, and is "a powerful germicide.’’ He instances the case of a big cigar factory in Hamburg at which, during an epidemic, not a single workman was attacked by the di'ease! 'Hated and abused by its enemies, nothing can really be proved against tobacco save that the imported brands too often contain an excess of nicotine, However, as far as New Zealanders are concerned that needn't worry them! Because our Choice New Zead land tobaccos are all toasted, and the toasting extracts the nicotine in double quick time, leaving the weed so sweet, pure and fram-int. tint it has an irresistible appeal for smokers everywhere. Toasted tobacco cannot do anyone any harm. There are only foui brands;—Riverlmad Gold, Cavendish, Navy Cut No. 3 and Cut Plug No. 10. Buyers should make a note of this, because the success.of th ■ toasted tobaccos is bringing out imitat.ons.
