SLOT MACHINES
THEFT OF CONTENTS. RAIDERS TRACKED DOWN. AUCKLAND, June 11. Penny poker played in a bakehouse with coins taken from stamp machines and telephone slat machines which they had raided > was. -ona> of the pastimes indulged in by three young men who appeared at the Police CourtT this morning and admitted a series of charges. They were Albert James Clark (nineteen), Frederick Joseph Na,ton (twenty-two) and Leonard James i.vlontrose Stanway (eighteen). A fourth youth was arrested but, as he is a juvenile, he will be dealt with at the Children’s Court, The three accused appeared on numerous charges of damaging slot machines and stealing the contents. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said ; “Since the arrest of these four youths no further thefts from slot machines have been reported and there is no doubt that the three men now before the Court and the other youth who is to come before another Court, were responsible. The District Telegraph Engineer estimates that a total sum of £6 4s $d was stolen from postage stamp machines and that the damage done to it hem was £3 6s sd. As far as the engineer can calculate £6 in pennies was stolen from the telephone slot machines, which were damaged to the extent of £6O 10s 7d. These young men have- at different times used a motor-car and two motor-cycles, when they toured round by night damaging and stealing from slo,t machines. The Magistrate remanded accused lor sentence.
