MUSICIAN’S DEATH

(By Telegraph —Per Press Association) CAMBRIDGE, June 9. Obituary —Arthur Towsey, aged 85. Ho was well known in musical circles in the Dominion particularly Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland and Wanganui, where he held appointments as organist. A BURGLARY. DUNEDIN, June 9. A burglar entered the residence ol P. Greaney at Balclutha during the night and removing clothes from a room extracted about £lO, a gold watch and chain. The clothes and litter was found on a section adjoining the house.

A FIRE. OHR TRTDH U EACH. June 8. Fire did extensive damage to a threestoreyed concrete building at the corner of Afanchester and Cashel Streets on Saturday evening. The premises most seriously damaged were occupied by Vincent Alnjor, a sports goods dealer, whose stock, valued at £4.50, was destroyed. Offices occupied by Joseph Yates and Co., land agents, adjoining, were also gutted, but no estimate of the damage done is yet available The offices of Messrs Jones, AFCrostie and Co., which are in the same building, were also damaged, but mainly by smoke and water.The fire was noticed at 9.40 p.m. ..by the nightwatchman, Air H. W. Copley, who broke the fire alarm at the corner of Al.anchester and Lichfield Streets. The brigade was soon on the scone, and quickly had the fire under control. The stock of Vincent Major's shop was insured in the Queensland Insurance Company for £3OO.

licensing poll. POSTPONEMENT PROPOSED. WANGANUI, June fi. A meeting of the Wanganui Licensed Victuallers passed a resolution that the National Council of the licensed trade be requested to endeavour to obtain a postponement of the time for the taking of a licensing poll, the money so saved to the trade to be paid to the relief of the unemployment fund.
