The open golf championship was won by Armour with a score of 296, Jurado was second witn 297.
The Australian, Stewart, took 315, and was a long way behind the leaders.
Other scores were:
Alliss and Sarazon 298, Macdonald, Smith and Farrell 299, Churio and Davies 300, Lavey 301, Havers and Cotton 302, Mitchell, Horton-Smith, Genta and Williamson 303, Dullemagne, It. Whitcombe, Okee and Hunter 304, Roomer and Robson 306, Holland and E. Whitcombe 307, Hudson, Twine and Kirkwood 308, Comps ton and C. Whitcombe 309, Duncan 312, Easter brook 313, Gadd 317, Rex and Halrey 321, Stewart (with two others) 315.
Forty-six had lower aggregates
Armour, who is a Scottish-born golfer, was victorious after one of the most thrilling finals of the championship, played hi a difficult wind. He was tl 10 most beautiful goller in the field. In the presence of twenty thousand, he exploited his gifts of very straight hitting, hard driving and brilliant iron play, and he holed long putts.
Cotton, the British hope, cracked up early Alliss once heartened the British supporters, but two disastrous boles spoilt a splendid round. Jurado, whom the Prince of Wales followed, fought nobly. He had the eu.p dashed from bis lips when he seemed to be- winning with,two holes to go. He mysteriously fluffed a. tee shot into a brook and he also hunkered leaving him wanting four to tie. Amid the tensest excitement, despite an excellent approach, the ball sievered past tin.* brink of the hole.
