ELECTIVE CABINET
SUGGESTION CONDEMNED
DUNEDIN, June 5
The Dunedin “Star” in the course of a leading article on the manifesto of three Independent members of Parliament, says: “It is idle to think of the adoption of the idea of an elective executive, and it- is surprising that any three members of Parliament with some little knowledge of the way .in which the political machinery operates should have committed themselves t° a suggestion sp futile. Another suggestion by Independent members is, however, severely practical. There is no heed in New Zealand and, at the present time, no legitimate excuse for the existence of a Government composed'of as many members as form the existing administration. The public would welcome a le onn that would substitute a smaller Cabinet, consisting of men who are of proven capacity and experience in Departmental administration, for that of the fourteen members now in office.”
