DRIVER’S LICENSE

APPLICATION FOR CANCELLATION. CHRISTCHURCH, May 30. The first case of it s kind was heard before Mr E. J). Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon when the Southern Union General Insurance Company, Ltd., asked, that the motor driver’s license of William Alillncr, a contractor, of Riccarton, lie cancelled under section .11 of the Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third Party Risk) Act, 1928. Millner was convicted of negligentdriving on Friday last. Mr Tracy appeared for the plaintiff company and Mr Sillies for defendant. On M.r Sinies’s application the case was ndjouriKkl until June 15. The section under which the action was brought reads:—“Any insurance company that lias entered into a contract of insurnnoe in accordance with this Act in respect of any motor-veh-icle may, on the ground that the safety of the public is being unduly endangered, apply to a Stipendiary [Magistrate for an order cancelling any motor license held bv the owner of the motor vehicle. And in any such case the Magistrate may make an order accordingly for the cancellation of the license. Any order for the cancellation of a driver’s license made under this sub-section, may include provisions disqualifying tbc holder from obtaining another such license fore such a period as the [Magistrate thinks fit.”
