THOUGHTS OF THE TIMES,

FUSION DECLINED

It is to be regretted Air Coatc s has definitely declined to accept Air Forbes’ offer to amalgamate the two major parties, Reform and United, an r | so convert a minority into a, strong majority Government. The reasons which Air Coates has given are somewhat difficult to follow, but in these times when the best men of each party are wanted to guide the destines of the Dominion, it seems a pity that some change cannot he made, which will convert the two contending political sections into one homogeneous whole, and this opinion will he held by all those who think the good of the Dominion should be placed above party considerations. —Alercantil© Gazette.
