A BLACK OUTLOOK, OTTAWA, April 20. An amendment to the. AddressJnrcply to the* speech from the Throne was moved by Robert Gardiner (United Farmers of Alberta leader) in the House to-day, urging a committee of the House to investigate the causes and extent of the present depression, with a view suggesting action to correct the situation. Air Gardiner s a id unless something turns up for the western farmer in u short time, the morals of the people of the plains will be absolutely gone. There is no hope for the general agricultural situation, unless there is, some modification of farmers debts. One of the drawbacks of the present monetary svstem was that all Governments wanted to stabilise money at one level. AYby this should he. Air Gardiner did not know. There was no reason why th P Government should put its resources behind money, any more than these resources should he applied +<J support manufacturing.
