The fifth race for the Sanders Cup was this morning sailed in a light north-e.lst wind, and resulted in a win ior tlie Southland boat, Kona by 31 seeoiK.s, from the M eliington boat,. Betty. The Auckland boat Avalont was. t.iird, Canterbury fourth, and 1 . Otago last. file sixth race was sailed this afternoon. At tile start the wind was fresh i.o.u the west. Ihe boats sailed only mlf a mile, when they .struck a. south-east sqaull. The whole fleet became tempo.anly unmanageable. The dona was driven through on to the Betty and the Latter was severely damaged her transom being cracked at the waterline. 'J tie Betty retired shortly after. The wind gradually fell light, and finally there was almost a calm. The Rona was leading until caught by the Avalon but the time limit expired before the finishing lino was reached.
