N.Z. UNEMPLOYMENT

DAY OF PRAYER. (Hu Telegraph — Z’cr Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 22. Sunday, March Bth. is to he observed in the churches throughout New Zealand as a special day of intercession for the guidance of those who are dealing with the nroblem of unemployment as the result of representations mad© by the Primate, Archbishop Averill. The Roman Catholic Church has agreed to co-operate with the Anglican Church in this matter, and to hold simultaneous prayers in its churches. Efforts are now being made to secure the co-operation also of the Presbyterian, Afethodist and Baptist Churches. A message lias been sent by Archbishop Averill to the Prime Minister, Hon. G. AY. Forbes, embodying the request that the day be recognised officially as “a national and civic day of prayer for guidance in these difficult times.” If the Government’s sanction is obtained, observance of the day will be universal throughout the Dominion.
