INTOXICATED DRIVER

AUCKLAND WOMAN CONVICTED. (By Telegraph—. Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 10. Arrested in a busy part of Newtown* at 6 p.m. yesterday, a woman, whose name was suppressed, pleaded not guilty to-day to being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car, involving a collision with a stationary motor-cycle. Evidence was given that there were three children in the car. Counsel pleaded that the woman had had a serious illness. He denied intoxication, and produced a bottle of a compound said to contain a small proportion of alcohol, which her doctor said he did not think would affect her. The Magistrate (Mr Woodward) said he was quite satisfied the woman was intoxicated. She was convicted and ordered to pay witnesses’ expenses Her license was cancelled for two years.
